Impactos da Quimioterapia na Qualidade de Vida de Mulheres com Câncer de Mama e o Papel da Enfermagem / Impacts of Chemotherapy on the Quality of Life of Women with Breast Cancer and the Role of Nursing

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Breast cancer represents an important public health issue and is one of the most common neoplasms among women. Among the therapeutic modalities used, chemotherapy plays a relevant role in disease control; however, it may cause adverse effects that directly interfere with patients’ quality of life, affecting physical, emotional, social, and functional aspects. Objective: To evaluate, through scientific literature, how chemotherapy influences the quality of life of women with breast cancer and to identify the contributions of Nursing to care and support during treatment. Materials and Methods: This is a qualitative bibliographic review conducted in the SciELO, Virtual Health Library (VHL), and PubMed databases, considering articles published between 2019 and 2026. Results: The analyzed studies showed that chemotherapy may cause symptoms such as fatigue, pain, insomnia, loss of appetite, neuropathies, changes in body image, and emotional distress, compromising the routine, autonomy, and well-being of women undergoing treatment. Scientific Contribution: The relevance of Nursing is evidenced in continuous follow-up, early identification of adverse effects, health education, encouragement of self-care, and emotional support for patients. Conclusion: Nursing plays an essential role in promoting comprehensive, humanized, and qualified oncological care, contributing to minimizing the impacts of chemotherapy and favoring better quality of life for women with breast cancer.
